Differences Between Whipping Cream And Whipped Cream
Actually, they have the same ingredients, but whipped cream is fluffy while whipping cream is quite liquid.
- Whipped cream is a form of whipping cream that has been whipped and ready to use. Normally, whipped cream is contained in a spray bottle, and you can spray it directly on your food or beverage, such as cakes, smoothies, ice cream, etc.
- Whipping cream is self-whisking cream and contains no sugar, so it is cheaper than whipped cream and is often used with apple pie, pudding, mousse, etc. However, the shorter shelf life is one of the biggest weaknesses of this fresh cream.
Differences Between Heavy Cream And Whipping Cream
It is well-known that heavy cream and whipping cream are created from milk and milk fat, though heavy cream has a higher fat content. In terms of color, it is hard to tell the difference between the two.
The strong point of heavy cream is that it can keep its texture long after catching the scream, so it is used in many main courses, simple and effortless desserts, and drinks, such as soups, strawberry shortcakes, cream puffs, cocktails, coffee, milkshakes, etc. The fat content of heavy cream is 36 – 40%, and whipping cream is 30 – 36%. Option 1: Milk
You probably have milk in your house at all times. It’s great! Did you know that different types of milk can produce different tastes of whipped cream?
I will provide two different milk types you can easily find and substitute for heavy cream in whipped cream recipes.
1. Full-fat Milk
Full-fat milk is a great alternative to heavy cream. With a similar amount of fat, full-fat milk can still maintain whipped cream’s foam and creaminess.
- ¼ cup or 2 oz of cold full-fat milk
- 2 tsp unflavoured powdered gelatin
- 1 cup of 8 oz of cold full-fat milk
- 2 tbsp confectioners sugar
- A small bowl
- A large bowl
- Microwave
- Whisk
Pour 8oz or 60g milk into a small bowl. Then, sprinkle 2 tsp powdered gelatin into the milk and stir well for 5 minutes. The mixture can then be microwaved to melt into a liquid. Once you have a liquid mixture, you should leave it outside and wait for it to cool down.
Take another larger bowl and pour a cup of milk with the cool gelatin mixing. Whisk the mixing and place in the refrigerator. After 20 minutes, you take the bowl out. Now you add some sugar into the bowl and stir it. Make sure you stop stirring when the mixing gets thicker and fluffier in the bowl.
It is the whipped cream you desired, right?

2. Evaporated Milk
Evaporated milk is milk that has removed 60% of water inside it and heated up. As a result, the milk content is higher, thicker, and creamier without affecting the nutritional content. (2)
- 12 oz can of evaporated milk
- ½ – ¾ cup of confectioners sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- A mixing bowl
- Beaters or mixing bowl with a whisk attachment
- Refrigerator or freezer
You should put the evaporated milk can and whatever you have to whisk, such as a hand mixer, stand mixer, or mixing bowl with the whisk attachment in your fridge until they get cold.
Pour the 12 oz cool evaporated milk into the cold mixing bowl. Whisk the milk at high speed for 1 minute.
Add ½ – ¾ cup of confectioners sugar and 1 tbsp vanilla into the mixing bowl. Continue to whisk the mixture at high speed for 3 minutes.

You walked through all the useful ways, and be ready to roll up your sleeves and get to try. To ensure you have a successful DIY whipped cream, you should pay attention to a few points:
- Your homemade whipped cream should be used immediately to taste the best flavor. After 30 minutes, your whipped cream will lose its fluffiness.
- If you want to store your whipped cream for later uses, you should place it in the fridge for no more than 2 days.
- For a new experience, you could add some cocoa powder or cinnamon to create a new flavor for your own whipped cream. Enjoy your desserts on your way!
- Butter is a warming temperature sensitive product, so it is hard to control the level of heat when melting the butter in a pot put directly on the stovetop. You can use the double boiler method to melt the butter.
To set a double boiler, you just need to put a small bowl on a boiling water pot and try to make sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl. This method aids your butter melt more gently than the old method.
- A bonus tip for you to stabilize homemade whipped cream and store it a bit longer in your fridge, you can add 1 tsp flavored Jell-O or unflavored gelatin in your whipped cream. Dissolve the mixture in boiling water and chill in the fridge until slightly thickened, then whisk it with chilled evaporated milk.
